Laptop to HD TV problem?

I have a HP Pavilion Dv6. It has a HDMI port and I want to watch video on my Sharp Quattron which also has HDMI ports. I connected HDMI to HDMI cable from the two but the video wont transfer. Am I doing something wrong?
